The problem has plagued players since launch, with some losing dozens of weapons and items at a time. One unlucky player even lost 40(!) legendaries. The bank just scarfed em’ down like a ravenous skag.
Bummer.
To avoid a similar fate, here’s what you need to know about these mysterious disappearances for console and PC.
When Does the Borderlands 3 Bank Glitch Happen?
While some players have encountered the glitch playing solo, most players run into the bug while playing multiplayer co-op.
Some seem to have experienced it in split-screen co-op, but from what I can tell, those instances seem isolated.
Borderlands 3 Bank Items Disappear (Console)
What can you do to avoid this on console? Officially, nothing. It’s simply a risk you take when banking items in co-op.
As of this writing, there is no official or unofficial fix for the problem on PS4 or Xbox One. The best thing players can currently offer is to:
Keep items/guns in your character inventory Drop items/guns to friends and have them mailed to you Mail items/guns to a mule character
Make sure to do one of the above before logging out. Then, while playing solo, put your items in your bank.
Borderlands 3 Bank Items Disappear (PC)
“Fix”: Disable Cloud Saves
Many PC players have seemingly linked bank issues to cloud saves. While we haven’t formally tested the method ourselves, those that have been affected suggest disabling cloud saves to avoid any losses.
Though Gearbox released a patch to address cloud save issues in relation to saves and player banks, it seems some players are still experiencing issues.
How to Disable Cloud Saves for Borderlands 3 on PC
To disable cloud saves for Borderlands 3 on PC, simply:
Go to your EGS library Find Borderlands 3 In Grid View, click the gear next to “launch” In List View, click the three dots on the far right side of the screen Toggle the “Enable Cloud Save” option off Blue is on Black is off
As noted by many players taking to the game’s forums, a somewhat similar glitch crippled Borderlands 2 for some players early in that game’s lifecycle. However, Gearbox eventually squashed the bug with a patch.
Hopefully, disappearing bank items in Borderlands 3 will meet a comparable end sooner rather than later. While there are millions of guns in the game and items aplenty, farming legendaries can still be a grind. Losing them can be demoralizing to say the least.
